If 2025 had a soundtrack, it was a mix of folk charm, psychedelic indie-rock and the kind of anthemic choruses that only Guy Garvey can lead. From the hills of Somerset to the ancient glades of Gloucestershire, these were the nights that stayed with us. We were reminded once again that the best way to hear music is surrounded by people who love it as much as you do - whether that’s in a small theatre or under the vast starlit sky in a forest. It was a year of soaring anthems, northern wit, and enough memories to last until next time.

Back in May, Kate Rusby brought the tour for her latest album ‘When They All Looked Up’ to the Memorial Theatre in Frome. It was a masterclass in why she’s considered to be the first lady of folk, gorgeous melodies with perfect, delicate backing from The Singy Songy Session Band, real musical craftsmen. The show was beautifully set and atmospherically lit. Kate Rusby’s music has been described as ‘a warm embrace in musical form’ and we wouldn’t disagree.

There was something equally magical about seeing elbow in a forest in June. As the sun dipped behind the ancient trees of the Westonbirt Arboretum, the atmosphere shifted from the psych-pop of The Coral (who proved they are still the masters of the three-minute melody) to something almost spiritual, with thousands of voices joining in ‘One Day Like This’ was pure communal joy. Yet Guy Garvey also has the incredible ability to make a massive outdoor space feel like a tiny, warm pub. What a night.
